So, I said that I would be giving away another copy of Dandelion Fire in November, and November has almost faded away to nothing. But . . . here I am (to save the day). I will do exactly as I promised. However, this giveaway will function a little differently than the last one did. This time there’s a question to be answered.
Rules: Post your guess/answer to the question (one post person, please). Everyone who answers the question correctly will be entered in a lottery (see, chance is still involved). If no one gets it right, then everyone is in the lottery. Make sense? I sure hope so.
Here is the question: If you were to travel through cupboard #90, where/when would you find yourself?
I’ll post the correct answer (and the winner) next Friday. Cheers.

Oh, dear. I borrowed the book from someone else, so I can’t go read it again. Please, everyone else, DON’T GET IT RIGHT!
At least I’m the first commenter.

My nine year old daughter, Abigail, says the book doesn’t say specifically where that cupboard goes but from the map on the inside cover page she figures it goes to Persepolis. As to the time, she (and I) don’t understand completely; it seems to be something like an alternate passage to another time or place, not Now or in the Past as seen on other “addresses”.

Oops, forgot to add the rest -
how about under pillar #56, in an alternate past which moves backward

I agree with Margaret, I think in Persepolis 1000 years before (before the time I entered the cupboard). I do not know what Sub Pill. 56 means. I agree also with Abigail that the book does not say exactly about that cupboard not like it does about the mailbox. Mum says sub pill. might mean some building term, she showed me on the internet that Persepolis is an ancient city, but I know that M means 1000.

I’ll go with beneath Pillar #56 in Persepolis in an alternate past 1000 years ago.
Or we could could go with being stuck in the cupboard in Henry’s uncle’s house at the present time.

You know what, I’m going to be completely original.
Cupboard #90? Bah, that’s easy.
Sub. Pill 56, which is actually located in Persepolis.
But the real question is WHEN.
And the answer is, Alternate Past 1000 years ago.
Top THAT you guys.

Inside the Palace of One Hundred Columns, underneath the 56th. It is in an alternate past in which Alexander the Great did not conquer Persepolis, approximately the year 1000 A.D.
Maybe that’s stretching it.

The answer to the question is:
Sub Pill. 56/Persepolis/Alternate pas. back 1000.
My question to the author is this: 1000 what? What does pas. stand for?

According to “Grandpa’s journal,” cupboard 90 connects to Sub. Pill 56/Persepolis/Alt past 1000 years, which may mean below (sub) pillar 56 in Persepolis (a Persian city) in a alternate past 1000 years ago. But in order to get to cupboard 90, you must set the compass locks correctly and then go to Grandpa’s room and enter his cupboard.

Cupboard 90 contains an ingestible temperature pill telemetry system which works when one’s body reaches a temperature of 50 degrees. At this temperature, one is transported back to Persepolis 1000 years ago. When Grandpa did this he changed the past.

By this point, I could cheat by copying everyone’s answers. At what price glory? (If I said “Under the 56th Pillar in the great hall of Persepolis one thousand years ago in a different section of the Trousers of Time”, would you still give me a vote?)

I think that if the door had not been shut, you would find yourself in Persepolis, which is located 70 km northeast of the modern city Shiraz. The time would be 1 millenium behind our time, namely the year 1008. Specifically, you would be beneath the 56th pillar in the Hall of 100 columns. I am guessing the 100 columns/100cupboards parallel is significant? Anyway, that is where you would find yourself if the door had not been blocked. However, the book talks about how Frank had come from a place where there was a ruined temple. After he follows Henry’s grandfather back through and spends a year in the city of Henry, he asks to go back and discovers that the doorway has been shut up, due to the collapse of a wall. This leads me to believe that you, in fact, cannot go through cupboard 90, for the way has been blocked. Any way, you couldn’t fit. The door is teeny.

Sorry, correction on my last comment. It would also be an alternate past, in addition to being 1000 years back.

I want to tell you something. My husband read this book as a read-aloud to the family. Now we have done many read-alouds, but you have enthralled my girls (my one year old Athanasius is too young still) beyond belief. I’m talking beyond even their love for the Narnia books and even the Douglas Bond Scottish Covenentors series. Well done Mr. Wilson, well done. If we get this for Christmas it would be the BEST present ever. You have given us the opportunity for some great times with our kids. Thank you.
